Annual Reunion of the (Giles Sr.) Newton Family Association every August at the Boykin United Methodist Church in Marlboro County, SC, near the NC Border

CALLING ALL NEWTON-HERNDON RELATIVES & DESCENDANTS!

Members of the Giles Newton Sr. (died 1807, SC) & Elizabeth “Betty” (Terrell) Newton Family Reunion Association have known of the Ann “Nancy” Newton & Benjamin Herndon marriage but knew absolutely nothing about the identities & whereabouts of their descendants or anything connected with that “missing” branch of the family till Dad & I made a genealogical trip back there in 2014.

I’ve been asked to gather cousin data so interested descendants can be invited to the annual reunion (the longest running reunion in South Carolina). The last one, Sunday, August 2, 2015, was the 89th. Next August will be the 90th Annual Newton Family Reunion, traditionally held at the Boykin United Methodist Church.

Update: The last reunion (the 93rd) was held Sunday, August 4, 2019.  The August 2020 reunion, scheduled for Sunday, August 2, 2020, will be their 94th.  They want to keep interest from dying out.

TRADITIONAL ANNUAL REUNION ACTIVITIES:
10:00 AM Official start is the annual Business Meeting
11:00 AM Welcome & Singing a couple hymns, including “Amazing Grace”
Followed by a covered dish Luncheon & Visiting & more…

ANNUAL DATE:
Reunions are held the first Sunday in each August.

LOCATION:
At the Boykin United Methodist Church, of unincorporated Boykin, near Bennettsville, Marlboro County, South Carolina, in the 29570 ZIP Code delivery area, located on Hwy 79, 1.5 miles west of Gibson, NC, very near the SC-NC border.

MY VOTE FOR BEST MARLBORO COUNTY, SC, GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH WEBSITE:         < http://sciway3.net/proctor/marlboro/ > hosted by Victoria Proctor, author & webmaster.  For researchers, it’s the next best thing to being there, if unable to go, to meet the wonderful people, connect with relatives, and see the ancestral sites for yourself, at least you can research the records!
